The global market for advanced feature systems (AFS) in the RFID industry approached $254 million in 2005, according to a recent study from Venture Development Corp. The real-time location systems (RTLS)/location-based services (LBS) AFS sub-segment represented more than 58% of the total market last year, and should grow over 40% annually through 2010. Major markets for RTLS continue to be government, healthcare, and transportation, largely due to mandates and the need to track high-value assets.
